How AMOSS works
- Case identification will be prospective.
- Non-identifiable data are collected on selected AMOSS conditions (known as the AMOSS data collection).
- A data coordinator is nominated within each maternity unit.
- Electronic monthly reporting on rare conditions are used with a negative reporting system in place.
- Incidence and case-control studies are conducted.
- Only population level data will be published and findings will be disseminated through peer-reviewed journals, presentations, the AMOSS annual report and newsletters.
- An established national clinical reference group will advise and agree upon conditions to be monitored.
- New conditions will be added on an annual basis
The preliminary conditions that are studied from 2010 include:
- Antenatal pulmonary embolus
- Amniotic fluid embolism
- Eclampsia
- Morbid obesity (BMI >50)
- Placenta accreta
- Peripartum hysterectomy
- Influenza in pregnancy (ICU admission)
